Tutorial for making a Shaker Card!

As I promised in the last post i am posting tutorial for a shaker card.
I filled the card with salt, but make sure it  won't melt by getting in contact with moisture!

Take a white A4 sized paper. Fold it into half.On the left side of the sheet draw a circle and cut it out.
On the right side draw a picture which is exactly the size of the circle.

Next , glue a piece of acetate or OHP sheet and paste it on the circle.

Using double sided sticker make a border for the circle without leaviing any gaps.
Sprinkle salt ,sugar, sand , sequins inside the border. Then peel of the backing of double sided sticker.
Now press the other side of paper onto the tape and press firmly all around the tape.

Voila! our card is ready!!

Below is another card adopting the same idea.

Santa & Snowman Card!

It's really a pleasant feeling to to receive greeting  cards during Christmas. To be honest, it's even more delightful to receive a handmade card rather than one bought from a shop .
This Christmas, why not help our children to make cards at home? It would make our little ones more happy  and create in them an interest to send cards to relatives and friends for Christmas. It also helps to boost their creativity. Moreover, it helps us to save some moneyWelcome to the free smiley index

Below is a pop-up card designed using blue and white card stock. I traced a picture of Santa and Snow man  browsing through the internet and coloured it using crayons. The white snow dots shown in the card are simply created using hole punch.

Since this is a very simple card, I am not providing a tutorial, but in my next post, I shall give  a tutorial on how to make shaker cards.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Just as I have mentioned about making a Christmas tree in my earlier post, we can easily make a Christmas star too for our homes. Surely, children will love to have it  in their homes. My 9 month baby loves to stare at it during the night when it is brightly lit. She also tries to grab the star reaching out her hand.

Below is the tutorial I have prepared so that it will be easy for you to make one.

Kindly note that it may seem a too lengthy description, but don't be misled to think that it's a difficult one. It's only that I wanted to give more details to the tutorial.

1)  Start with 6 pieces of A4 or any rectangular shaped paper.
fig 1

2) Create creases as in fig 1 by folding as shown in the figs 2,3, 4 and 5.

fig 2
fig3

fig4
fig 5
3) Next open all the foldings.
All the creases are highlighted with lines as shown  in fig 6.
4) Draw a line 1cm width parallel to the line marked as C shown in fig6
5) Next cut the paper along the line which is marked in red

fig 6

fig 7

  6) Now our paperwork looks as in fig 8

fig 8
7) Again fold it along the creases as before and as
shown in fig. 9 and fig 10

fig 9

fig 10
8) Now fold the side A B to side A C  as in fig 11 to resemble  fig 12

fig 11
fig 12

9)  Fold the left side (flap below the one we just folded) along the new fold we made
     just above.
fig 13

10) Next we unfold it and draw 1 cm width lines as shown in fig 14.
Then cut along the red lines.

fig 14
11)  Now turn over and glue the area which we marked 1 cm width
and paste the other end on top of it , as in fig 15, 16,17 and 18
fig 15
fig 16

fig 17
fig 18
 12) Now we have successfully completed one wing of the star.
The shape will resemble fig 19. Similarly we have to make five more wings

fig 19
 13) Mountain fold at every creases except the
two flaps as shown in fig 20. For the flaps we will do the valley fold

fig 20
 14) Apply glue under the flaps as shown in fig 21
fig 21
15) Paste it along with another wing ,on the side without flaps,
as shown in fig 22, 23 and 24

fig 22

fig 23

fig24
16) Repeat the above steps for all the wings.
In this way, all the 6 wings are adjoined .
Last attach thread to the two ends to tie it up.
We can punch designs  to make it more beautiful when we light it up.
fig 25

That's it. Now you are all set to gaze the star inside your very own home. You can also join along with your little loved ones and sing out the popular rhyme : "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!
How I wonder what you are!"

Thank you.

Make a Christmas Tree

Hai all,
Christmas is just a  few days away. I wished to have a Christmas tree at our home and instead of purchasing one, I thought why not make one. I searched in the internet and was pleased to find an easy tutorial to fulfil my desire, thanks to www.looledo.com

As you can see it in the attached photo, it's not that perfect but it gave me the pleasure that, for this Christmas  I have my very own home made Christmas Tree.

It's really an easy, cheap and nice project that one can make in their  classrooms , teens /kids ministry gatherings or even at home.
If you find that there is anyone who cannot afford to buy a tree, you could also gift it to them as a Christmas Gift. To add to it's beauty, you can also hang decoration ornaments such as ribbons, stars and lights.

Here is the link for the tutorial.

If you have any doubts in regards to making this tree,
I would be glad to help.
Feliz Nevidad!

It's time to Do SMALL and think big.

Just today I saw a video link posted by my friend Dony Peter on Twitter. The video is quite impressive in the sense that it gives a realistic solution to the one who always dreams big, but never comes to actually working it out. It's always been my impression that those  who have the wildest dreams are the ones who actually succeed in life. But it's not always true. One needs to always take that one small step towards realising it. Watching the video, I also realized that the one who has originated this idea, viz Derek Sivers has also convincingly cited his own real life example at the end. Surprisingly, it was one that I had already been to terms with.

I would like to share something about it first. The Music Ministry of a youth movement had released a Devotional Album 'Mahabba' and I was on the look out for a suitable website that could host it. Though there was a price tag attached I found a suitable online hosting site called "CDBaby.com".  The whole process of hosting the music was very smooth and satisfactory. Come to think of it, when I heard that this Derek Sivers had accidently created this wonderful website just by taking that one small step of hosting just a couple of CD's onto his website. Just within a year, he had made it profitable and today is one of the leading online music hosting websites in the world.

So to summarize, this blog is an attempt to do something small along with my wife Christeena. Sharing our thoughts, creativities and so on and so forth. And not to forget, below is the video I was talking about.
Cheers,
Rijo John

Quilled Heart

Hi Friends,
Welcome to this Blog of Treasures and Leisures! In this blog, I along with my husband and baby wish to share our ideas, creativities, crafts, hobbies and so on...some inspired from other blogs...some from talks and presentations we have seen...and maybe only a few originals. However, our main intention is to focus on teens and kids mainly to motivate their inborn talents and to form a good character early in their life.

Our first post is a Quilled Heart. For those who don't know what is a quilled heart, it is simply a heart made using quilling technique. Shortly, but surely, we are planning to have a tutorial on the quilling technique in later posts!

Have a Good Day!
